Profound history of the Singapore Bilingual Publishing Group
Bilingual Publishing Group, formerly known as Bilingual Publishing Co, was founded in 1984 and upgraded to Bilingual Publishing Group in 2022. Bilingual Publishing Group has been dedicated to cultural work of bilingual academic research, international journal publishing, conferences, and topical cooperation for more than 30 years, enjoying a high reputation in southeast Asian countries,even around the world. It has successively published hundreds of linguistic books and CDs such as Standard Chinese Pronunciation, Fundamental Chinese Conversation, Basic English Pronunciation, English Phonetics, etc. Prof. Tham, the bigwig of Chinese input system, is the founder of Singapore Bilingual Publishing Co. He worked as director of Language Study and Translation Centre in Singapore, principal of Golden Mile Language Centre in the past, as well as council member of International Society for Chinese Language Teaching, having long engaged in translating and edit, teaching, and computer input studies. In 2005, he developed Chinese phonetic input method of HLV, which solves the problem of multiple choices under same phonetic Chinese characters, simplifies process of typing, and greatly speeds up typing.
In early June of 2017, Singapore Bilingual Publishing Co. completed joining of new shareholders and new election of board of directors. The board meeting has been promoted to board of directors, the new directors all agreed to elect Prof. Tham, former chairman of the board, who is 82 years old, as Life Honorary Chairman. The new chairman of the board now is Wang Yutao, and vice chairmen are Cai Qiang and Zhou Xin.
By virtue of reorganization and reform of the new board of directors, Singapore Bilingual Publishing Co. will target international academic exchanges and scientific publishing under multicultural background, and rapidly expand its publishing market in southeast Asian countries and countries all over the world. Singapore Bilingual Publishing Co., after upgrading and transformation, will take full advantages of bilingual publishing of Chinese and English,constantly strengthening and enlarging the academic publishing industry. Singapore Bilingual Publishing Co., the old international publisher with high prestige, will embrace a new era in its history.
In 1991, Prof. Tham, founder of Bilingual Publishing Co.,acted as the Committee member of the 1st HSK in 1991.
In 1993, Prof. Tham Wai Houng, founder of Bilingual Publishing, was invited to the 4th International Chinese Teaching Session.
In 1995, Prof. Tham, founder of Bilingual Publishing Co., attended the International Session of Chinese Computerized Teaching.
In 1999, Prof. Tham, founder of Bilingual Publishing Co., acted as President of 104th Committee of Singapore Sanshui Huiguan
In 2009, Prof. Tham, founder of Bilingual Publishing Co., acted as President of the 85 th Committee of Singapore Tham’s Association and Chairman of the 90 th Double Anniversary Celebration.
